The college was launched in 1994. The institute is affiliated to Bharath Sevak Samaj (BSS) since 2009. Santhi Institute of Medical Technology is now located in the compound of Santhi Hospital, Omassery. The college has a well-equipped model ward and a good library. Special programs are conducted by experts to ingrain a wide social understanding in students. Students are given the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities.

The major goal of the institution is to provide access to medical professional courses to students in the lower economic strata thereby assuring the upliftment of not just the students but their families as well. 170 students are admitted every year across the 7 courses provided by the institution.
